Soldiers Learn Hand-to-Hand Combat from Experts

CAMP SMITH TRAINING SITE-- New York Army National Guard Spec Casey Monahan, a member of A Troop 2nd Squadron 101st Cavalry, grapples with Isac Chavez, a Brown Belt Assistant Instructor at the Cutting Edge Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu School, during the Army Basic Combatives course held here on October 27.
Chavez is the 2010 no Gi Pan-American Champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and was brought in as a guest instructor for the course.
12 Soldiers from across the New York Army National Guard attended the train-the-trainer course conducted by the 106th Regional Training Insitute. These Soldiers will go back to their home units to pass along the combat survival skills they learned.
