Engineers Train For Search and Rescue

CAMP SMITH TRAINING SITE, CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. -- Members of the New York Army National Guard’s 1156th Engineer Company, wearing red helmets, use a jackhammer to penetrate concrete debris as part of their search and extraction training. The troops practiced horizontal breaching techniques during training for the National Guard CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or High Explosive) Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP). Trainers for the exercise (in blue and yellow headgear) are from the current CERFP Search and Extraction Team, engineers from Company A, 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion. The Soldiers conducted both individual and team training here at Camp Smith June 21-26 to prepare for the validation of the entire CERFP element for operations, set to occur the following week on July 1.
