RANDALLS ISLAND, New York - A member of the reconnaissance section of the 24th Civil Support Team, New York National Guard based at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn takes air samples from a simulated clandestine lab.
It was part of an evaluated exercise on June 8 at the New York Fire Department Training Academy at Randalls Island, New York City. As part of the scenario, the 24th was called to a notional crime scene where federal and local law enforcement authorities believed that terrorists may have been creating a chemical or biological agent for use in future attack.
The 24th responded to the call and quickly moved to the site, linked with the civil authorities at the scene and went to work to determine the extent and nature of the threat. Army evaluators tested the unit’s abilities through situation injects throughout the day-long exercise.
