Stewart Air Base Air National Guard Raises $7,500 For Local Charities

Money will go to 24 Orange County families

NEWBURGH, NY (12/22/2008)-- In the spirit of the season; the women and men of the 105th Airlift Wing raised over $7,500 in support of community charities this holiday. The Air National Guardsmen adopted 24 Orange County families identified by local not for profit groups as requiring special assistance. Their goal: help their anonymous families' along the way to a joyous holiday season. In addition to gift donations, Air Guard personnel also operated a successful food drive in support of several community pantries and will conduct our annual Christmas Eve Blood drive with over 100 unit donors already registered. Brig General Verle L. Johnston, Jr., Wing Commander said: "This successful community support effort is in the best traditions of this unit and the New York Air National Guard. I am extremely proud of this unit and its people". The 105th Airlift Wing is a component of the New York Air National Guard. The unit's 13 C5A strategic airlift aircraft regularly fly missions around the world in support of our nation's interests. Stewart Air National Guard Base is located 70 miles north of New York City and is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary at Stewart Airport in Newburgh, NY. It has a proven record for answering the call to duty both in New York State and around the globe. The Wing has more than 1,500 assigned members most of whom live in the Hudson Valley.
