Ranges

   Camp Smith has 8 outdoor live fire ranges. Applicable regulations for all Camp Smith ranges can be found in DA PAM 385-63. Prior to any organization occupying a range, all safety and facility reservation requirements must be met to the satisfaction of Camp Smith Range Control.

**It is the responsibility of the using organization to understand all range restrictions and to confirm, check and coordinate for all necessary safety requirements of each particular range and its vicinity.



10/25M RIFLE/MACHINE GUN ZERO RANGE
(Range 1A, Range 1B, Range 2A, Range 3A)

The Zero Ranges are used to train individual Soldiers on the skills necessary to align the sights and practice basic marksmanship techniques against stationary targets. These ranges are designed primarily to train Shot-Grouping and Zeroing exercises with the M16 and M4 series rifles as well as crew served machine guns up to 7.62 mm, and the 9mm pistol. These ranges are also used to qualify Soldiers on the 25 meter alternate course (ALT-C). Paper targets are used.



KNOWN DISTANCE (KD) RANGE
(Range 2, Range 3)

The Known Distance (KD) Ranges are designed for training rifle marksmanship and target engagement techniques. These ranges are used to train personnel on the skills necessary to identify, engage, and hit stationary targets in a static array from a known distance. Target lifters are used.



COMBAT PISTOL RANGE
(Range 7N, Range 7S)

The Combat Pistol Firearms Qualification Ranges are designed to meet training and qualification requirements with combat pistols. These ranges are used to train and test personnel on the skills necessary to identify, engage, and hit stationary infantry targets in a static array from a known distance. The range targets are not automated and not computer driven or scored.
