Aquatic Robot Trains with New York Naval Militia

BUCHANAN--An unmanned, radio-controled boat known as a MUSCL, short for Modular Unmanned Surface Craft, Littoral, manuevers in the Hudson River off the Indian Point nuclear plant near New York Naval Militia Patrol Boat 400, on Tuesday, August 4.
The MUSCL, a naval version of the anti-IED robots used by EOD technicians in Iraq and Afghanistan, employs television and forward looking infrared radar to examine ships and docks for attached explosives.
Civilian experts from the U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Center teamed up with the New York Naval Militia to test the craft in the Hudson River during exercise Trojan Horse, a maritime security exercise run annually by the State University of New York Maritime College.
